The Warmth of Paper

01 Why did you choose a Cup Holder as an ingredient? Explain the ingredient.
The disposable products used for a drink at a cafe are not only cups, but straws and cup holders are also used as disposable products. The recycling problem of takeout coffee cups and related disposable products is expected to accelerate. A cup holder refers to the purpose of making it easy and safe to hold a drink and overlapping it on a cup.

It is a paper band that is inserted into a cup containing hot drink so that your hands do not get daisy or cold drinks do not get cold.  drinks so that your hands do not get daisy or cold drinks do not get cold.

02 What is the design intention?

Like a cup holder that protects against hot things, we want to make insulation, which is a material to reduce heat loss or heat inflow to the outside. In order to grasp the basic frame, a hexagonal shape that comes out when two cup holders
overlap was applied, and a curve was used to modernize th traditional Korean patterns on the hexagonal shape.

03 What are the craft techniques used? Explain the craft technique you have chosen.

Jiho Craft is a traditional technique in which waste paper is used and discarded as a field of Korean paper craft, dissolved in water, and ground with grass to form paper clay. Modern Jiho Craft does not use Korean paper, but recycles a wide range of waste paper to create eco-friendly value.

04 Describe the Production Process of the Work.
Soak the cup holder in water and grind it in a blender to make paper porridge. Prepare a silicone mold to pour the paper porridge into. Pour the paper porridge into the mold. Cover the mold with a cloth and press it with a sponge to drain it. Dry it for 2-3 days while drained. Repeat the same method with a cup holder of various colors.
